US Open 2026: Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz roars into third round with win over Jaime Faria
New Delhi, Sept. 3 -- World No 3 Carlos Alcaraz Garfia edged past Portugal's Jaime Faria to qualify for the third round of the US Open 2026 at Flushing Meadows in New York on Thursday. The Spaniard beat the Portuguese with a 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, 6-2 scoreline in a match that lasted two hours and 40 minutes at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The US Open is Alcaraz's first tournament in four months, having been sidelined due to a wrist injury. He played the Australian Open this year, but missed the French Open and Wimbledon due to the injury. Alcaraz said he is considering taking a few breaks in the future to manage his workload and injuries.
