The Spaniard beat the Portuguese with a 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, 6-2 scoreline in a match that lasted two hours and 40 minutes at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The US Open is Alcaraz's first tournament in four months, having been sidelined due to a wrist injury. He played the Australian Open this year, but missed the French Open and Wimbledon due to the injury.
