New Delhi, Oct. 22 -- The Indian stock market is expected to open lower on Thursday, October 22, as indicated by GIFT Nifty. The index was trading around 22,682, down nearly 46.50 points, or 0.20%, from the previous close of Nifty futures, signalling a negative start for domestic benchmark indices.

On Wednesday, Indian equity benchmarks extended their losses for a second consecutive session, with the Sensex declining 143 points amid selling pressure in power, banking and financial stocks. Elevated crude oil prices also dampened investor sentiment.

The 30-share BSE Sensex fell 143.21 points, or 0.19%, to close at 73,709.69, while the NSE Nifty 50 dropped 77.60 points, or 0.34%, to settle at 22,811.35.
