New Delhi, Aug. 25 -- Stocks to buy for the short term: Stock market benchmarks ended in the red on Monday as sentiment remained weak ahead of fresh US sanctions on Iran. Oil prices, despite some easing, stayed above $92 per barrel, weighing on sentiment.

The US has increased economic pressure on Iran and its trading partners in a bid to force the resumption of energy flows through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran, on the other hand, warned that Washington's new sanctions on Tehran, announced Monday, will not bring peace to the region.

Oil prices remain up, and the US-Iran stalemate continues, keeping the stock market sentiment weak.
