New Delhi, Aug. 31 -- The Indian stock market benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty 50, are expected to open sharply lower on Monday, 31 August, amid weak global cues.

The Gift Nifty trends also pointed to a subdued start for the Indian equity market. The Gift Nifty was trading around 24,232, indicating a discount of nearly 110 points to the previous close of Nifty futures.

The domestic benchmark indices ended higher in the previous session, with the Nifty 50 closing above the 24,100 mark.

The Sensex gained 330.92 points, or 0.43%, to settle at 77,264.51, while the Nifty 50 advanced 84.80 points, or 0.35%, to close at 24,175.65.
