SpiceJet faces fresh legal heat as engine lessor seeks enforcement of $8 million UK award
NEW DELHI, May 21 -- In another legal setback for cash-strapped airline SpiceJet, France-based aircraft engine lessor Sunbird France 02 SAS has moved the Delhi High Court seeking enforcement of a UK court judgment directing the airline to pay nearly $8 million in unpaid lease rentals and maintenance dues linked to three aircraft engines, adding to the carrier's mounting litigation burden amid ongoing financial stress.
The case came up for hearing before Justice Vikas Mahajan on Thursday, who asked SpiceJet to file an affidavit disclosing its assets. However, senior advocate Amit Sibal, appearing for the airline, sought time to obtain instructions on the issue.
