New Delhi, Aug. 6 -- A shorter Independence Day weekend is reshaping-not dampening-holiday travel demand.

With Independence Day falling on a Saturday this year, leaving little scope for an extended break unlike in 2025, travellers are opting for shorter, drive-to getaways and staycations instead of fly-to holidays. Hotel chains including IHG, Sarovar, Wyndham and Roseate, along with vacation rental platforms, told Mint bookings are tracking ahead of last year despite the compressed holiday calendar.
