New Delhi, May 28 -- Charlotte Bronte was a prominent English novelist and poet of the Victorian era, best known as the author of the classic novel Jane Eyre. She was the eldest of the three surviving Bronte sisters (along with Emily and Anne), who grew up in the remote Yorkshire village of Haworth in a strict, intellectual household shaped by their father, a clergyman.
