New Delhi, Aug. 30 -- A new study reveals that in Great Britain there are more than 2.1 million people who have a medical condition registered with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) as either a full driver or a provisional. The number has more than doubled in the last 2 years and medical fitness checks are becoming increasingly relevant for drivers.

The data, which Marshall Motor Group has requested under the Freedom of Information Act (FOI), reveals the number of people with a medical condition recorded with the DVLA in May 2026 was 2,175,859. This represents over 326,000 more than in May 2024. A medical condition does not, however, mean that a driver is automatically unfit to drive.
