New Delhi, Aug. 26 -- Dolly Parton, the country music icon who rose from a log cabin in rural Tennessee to become one of America's most celebrated stars, known for her soaring voice, heartfelt songwriting and flamboyant costumes, has died.

She was 80 years old.

Parton's nephew, who is also her Head of Security, informed the world of her passing through a video shared on Instagram.

The cause of her death has not been disclosed. The 'Jolene' hitmaker's death has come as a shock to her fans and followers. While the exact reason of her passing is not known, it is said that the singer was battling some undisclosed health issues for the past year.
