New Delhi, March 17 -- KC Tyagi, a veteran Janata Dal (United) leader, resigned from the party's primary membership on Tuesday, a day after the party's chief and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar won the Rajya Sabha election.

Tyagi, who had been associated with the JD(U) since its merger with the Samata Party in 2003, had previously served as its chief national spokesperson, a Rajya Sabha member, and national secretary-general. In the current role he was party's advisor,

"The membership campaign of the party has ended. This time, I've not renewed the membership of the party," Tyagi said in a statement on Tuesday.
