ITR: Here's why it is important to ensure TDS statement, Form 26AS details match before you file income-tax returns
New Delhi, May 26 -- The income-tax department has notified I-T return (ITR) forms for assessment year 2026-27 (AY27) or financial year 2025-26 (FY26) and enabled Excel Utility for the ITR-1 (Sahaj) and ITR-4 (Sugam) forms online. This means that taxpayers can now prepare their returns offline before digitally uploading the same.
However, if you are a salaried taxpayer, it may be more prudent to wait till 15 June before your file your returns, in order to avoid potential mismatches between your important financial documents - your Form 16 (TDS statement) and Form 26AS (annual information statement).
