New Delhi, Sept. 17 -- Australia is moving to tighten its immigration system, with most international students set to lose the ability to bring partners and children with them while studying under new measures announced by the government.

The government will also introduce tougher rules for working holiday visa holders and step up enforcement against people who overstay their visas, Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke said on Thursday.

The changes come as migration remains a major political issue in Australia, where concerns over population growth and the rising cost of living continue to feature prominently in public debate.
