New Delhi, March 11 -- Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in her Budget 2026 speech in February announced continued emphasis on India's Nuclear Energy Mission, with an outlay of Rs.20,000 crore for research, design, development and deployment of small modular reactors (SMR).

Today, Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (MoS) for Atomic Energy and Space in a written reply in the Lok Sabha shared that the Department of Atomic Energy's Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) has undertaken design and development works on these SMRs.
