India records highest e-bus sales in April-September period, adoption jumps to 8.55%
New Delhi, Oct. 5 -- India's electric bus sales jumped 55% in the April-September period to the highest level in the first half of any fiscal year.
Sales of e-buses reached 3,723 units from a year earlier, pushing their penetration to 8.55% in H1 from 5.47% in H1 FY26, data from the government's Vahan registry of new vehicles showed. Overall bus sales fell 0.4% year-on-year to 43,561 units in H1.
"The decline in overall bus sales is marginal, but should not be ignored," said Sharif Qamar, associate director at The Energy and Resources Institute.
