New Delhi, Aug. 31 -- More than six decades after an Indian held the International Telecommunication Union's (ITU) top elected post, India is once again hopeful of securing a key leadership position at the UN agency responsible for coordinating global telecommunications.

In 2025, the Centre nominated Revathi Mannepalli, joint wireless adviser at the department of telecommunications, as its candidate for director of the Radiocommunication Bureau (BR) at the ITU, one of the agency's five top leadership positions.

Mannepalli, also a member of the ITU Radio Regulations Board, will be contesting against two European candidates: Eric Fournier of France and Alexander Kuhn of Germany.In November, Doha, the capital of Qatar, will host the next P...
