New Delhi, Sept. 21 -- The Mumbai Crime Branch has taken over the investigation into the alleged suicide of a 22-year-old IIT Bombay student, an incident that has triggered massive campus protests, a police case against a professor, and sweeping demands for institutional reform.

In its latest statement, IIT Bombay said, "We apologise for the statements contained in our earlier communication concerning the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate demise of Sahil."
