New Delhi, Sept. 1 -- A bridge that became an infrastructure issue three years ago has become a major political issue ahead of Democratic primary in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the United States by area, located in the New England region.

The state's incumbent Governor, Dan McKee, is facing a tough Democratic primary challenge from Helena Foulkes, a former CVS executive, with the controversy surrounding the Washington Bridge closure emerging as a central issue in the race, the New York Times reported.

The Democratic Party primaries in Rhode Island, 2026 is scheduled for 9 September.
