Hindustan Copper future roadmap: Where is the company headed?
New Delhi, Sept. 18 -- India does not mine much copper, but it needs a great deal of it. Every transmission line, every electric vehicle motor, every data center and every solar installation runs on the metal.
The import dependence has become more burdensome as copper prices have risen. The metal touched a record of about $14,617 per tonne this year, up from under $1,000 at the end of November 2025.
In that context, there is one listed Indian company that actually mines copper ore.
Hindustan Copper is a miniratna public sector undertaking under the ministry of mines, 66.14% owned by the government.
