Gold loans surge 4x in the last 5 years, but penetration remains low: Report reveals where the growth is coming from
New Delhi, Sept. 2 -- The gold loan segment has surged nearly 4x in the past five years to Rs.18.6 trillion as of March 2026, becoming the second-largest asset class in the retail segment and surpassing personal loans, according to the "Morning India" report released by Motilal Oswal Financial Services on Wednesday.
However, gold loan penetration remains low, with only around 8% of the estimated gold held by Indian households currently monetised. Here's what the report reveals about the gold loan trend.
