Gloria Steinem dies at 92: From journalist to feminist icon who fought for women's rights for six decades
New Delhi, Sept. 3 -- Gloria Steinem, the celebrated author, journalist and activist who became one of the most influential voices of the US women's movement, has died at the age of 92.
Steinem died on Wednesday (September 2) at her home in New York City after a period of declining health, according to a post on her social media accounts. She had recently completed a memoir that is scheduled to be published this fall.
For more than six decades, Steinem campaigned for gender equality and became a defining figure in the feminist movement. With her distinctive aviator glasses and streaked hair, she was a highly recognizable presence at rallies, marches, college campuses and community events across the US and around the world.
