New Delhi, Oct. 24 -- German drone manufacturer Quantum Systems has announced that its battery-powered experimental aircraft, Apex Recordhunter, reached a speed of 483 mph (777 km/h) during a record attempt, potentially setting a new benchmark for battery-electric flight.

However, the achievement has not yet been officially confirmed, as the aircraft must complete a return flight to account for the effects of wind, reported Interesting Engineering.

The latest test highlights advances in electric propulsion technology and provides engineers with an opportunity to assess the performance and limitations of battery-powered aircraft operating at extremely high speeds.
