New Delhi, May 26 -- Friedrich Nietzsche, born in Rocken, Prussia, in 1844, became one of the most influential and provocative philosophers of modern thought. Trained as a classical philologist, he became a professor at the University of Basel at just 24, before poor health pushed him away from academic life and deeper into writing. His major works include The Birth of Tragedy, Human, All Too Human, The Gay Science, Thus Spoke Zarathustra, Beyond Good and Evil and On the Genealogy of Morality. Britannica describes Nietzsche as a German classical scholar, philosopher and critic of culture who became one of the most influential modern thinkers.
