The Hague, Oct. 26 -- India's commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal on Monday said Europe was adding to businesses' regulatory burden just as the global economy seeks simpler rules and greater freedom to operate.

"We are deregulating. Sadly, you need to take a lesson or two from us on that. With Europe adding to the regulatory burden of businesses. I tell you, whenever I say that, I become the darling of the business world. In your countries," Goyal said at the India Netherlands Business Forum in The Hague.

Goyal, on an official visit to the Netherlands, also positioned India as a trusted partner for businesses, saying the country does not steal data, technology or ideas.
