Bank holiday today, Aug. 22 -- All private and public-sector banks across the country will remain shut today, August 22, as the date falls on the fourth Saturday of the month, which is an off for all lenders.

According to the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) guidelines, all scheduled and non-scheduled banks are mandatorily shut on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month, as well as all Sundays. As a result, customers cannot access in-branch banking services on these days.

Bank operations also remain unavailable on national, religious, and regional holidays, though the list of such holidays varies across states. Additionally, bank branches remain shut pan-India on gazetted public holidays.
