Bank holiday today, June 26 -- Public and private banks in multiple states will be closed today, on Friday, 26 June, on account of Muharrum.

According to to the Reserve Bank of India's holiday calendar, bank operations will remain shut in Agartala, Aizawl, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi and Srinagar.

Notably, Muharram is one of the most sacred months in Islam, as it marks the beginning of the lunar calendar. Following the lunar month of Safar, Muharram is considered the second-holiest month in the Hijri calendar after Ramadan.
