New Delhi, May 4 -- BJP is on course to retain power in Assam! BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is headed for a decisive victory in the state as early Election Commission trends showed the party leading in 80 seats against 23 of Congress, crossing the majority mark in the 126-member Assembly.

This places Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on track for a third consecutive term as counting continued.

According to ECI data, the BJP is leading on 80 seats, and the Indian National Congress is ahead in 23 seats. The Bodoland People's Front (BPF) and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) with 10 seats each at around 12.00 am.
