9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed to face trial in June 2028, US military court says
New Delhi, Aug. 27 -- Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the alleged mastermind of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, is set to go on trial in June 2028, according to a US military court official.
A spokesman for the US military commission at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where Mohammed is being held, said Thursday that the trial is scheduled to begin on June 5, 2028.
Mohammed is accused of playing a central role in planning the 9/11 attacks, in which nearly 3,000 people were killed after hijacked planes crashed into the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania.
The case has faced years of delays, largely because of disputes over evidence obtained during the CIA's post-9/11 detention and interrogation programme.
