New Delhi, April 1 -- Cloud computing firm Oracle is laying off thousands of employees to cut costs, CNBC reported. According to Business Insider, employees have started receiving notifications on Tuesday.

The full extent of the cuts, which will affect employees globally, could not be immediately learned. But some reports have suggested that it may be as high as 20,000 and 30,000. Reports suggest that this also affects around 12,000 Oracle employees in India

In the notification email to the laid-off employees, viewed by Business Insider, the company cited "organisational change" and said their roles had been eliminated with immediate effect. "Today is your last working day."
