Raiganj, Sept. 23 -- Police have arrested two youths for allegedly sexually assaulting a physically challenged minor girl in North Dinajpur district. The arrested youths were identified as Noor Alam (28) and Alam Mahammad (30), both residents of Paschim Birnagar in Raiganj.
The accused youths were produced before the court on Wednesday. The court sent them to two days of police custody.
According to police, the family members of the minor girl lodged a complaint at a police station on September 21, alleging that the two youths had sexually assaulted the girl.
Acting on the complaint, police launched an investigation and subsequently arrested both accused.
Police said a case has been registered against the accused under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The incident has triggered tension in the locality, with residents expressing concern over the safety of children. Police officials said the investigation is underway and further action will be taken on the basis of evidence collected during the probe.
