New Delhi, Oct. 7 -- The Delhi Assembly turned into a classroom of young legislators on Wednesday as children aged 7 to 17 occupied the seats of elected representatives and debated environmental conservation and sustainability during the Rashtriya Paryavaran Baal Sansad 2026.
Addressing the programme, Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta said the informed and peaceful debate by the children offered a model for legislative deliberations and stressed that environmental protection and development must go hand in hand. "The future our children inherit will be shaped by what we choose to protect today," Gupta said, adding that the generations to come would judge the present generation by what it preserved.
Held under the theme "Sowing Today, Growing Tomorrow", the programme saw children deliberate on environmental conservation, sustainability and responsible citizenship inside the Assembly Chamber.
Gupta says dialogue, questioning and environmental responsibility can strengthen democracy while urging children to stay engaged in public issues.
