New Delhi, Sept. 2 -- Residents of East Mehram Nagar have raised concerns over road safety after a 48-year-old domestic worker died in an alleged road accident on August 11 while returning home from work at the police colony.
Residents said the busy stretch is used daily by people living and working in the area, but existing speed breakers have failed to slow vehicles, with drivers allegedly continuing to drive at high speed.
A key concern is the absence of a traffic signal near East Gate No. 1 of Mehram Nagar. Residents said a traffic-control measure is needed to help pedestrians, particularly children and elderly people, cross safely. Children from Mehram Nagar and the Delhi Police Colony regularly cross the road to reach the nearby Government Sarvodaya Co-Ed School.
Residents also said the situation worsens in the evening, when traffic police personnel are allegedly not present. A divider cut is closed with barricades after 6-7 pm, forcing residents to take a longer route.
