India, June 27 -- A 30-year-old man and his 56-year-old father have been arrested by Delhi Police for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 24-year-old woman who was allegedly subjected to persistent harassment over dowry demands and her inability to conceive. The accused, identified as Rohan and his father Rajesh, both residents of Raghubir Nagar in west Delhi's Khyala, were arrested following the death of Rohan's wife, Kajal, on June 24. Police said a PCR call reporting the woman's death was received at Khyala Police Station. Responding officers found Kajal dead inside her room with a ligature mark around her neck. A chunni tied to a window grill was recovered from the spot, indicating suspected suicide. Crime and Forensic Science Laboratory teams examined the scene and collected evidence. She was declared brought dead at Guru Gobind Singh Hospital. Based on statements recorded from her parents and other relatives before the SDM, police registered an FIR on June 25 under Sections 80, 85 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. During the investigation, police alleged that Kajal was repeatedly subjected to mental and physical cruelty over dowry and monetary demands. Her family claimed they were unable to meet these demands, leading to continued harassment. She was also allegedly taunted and abused for not bearing a child even after three years of marriage, harassment that investigators believe drove her to take the extreme step. Further investigation is underway.
