New Delhi, April 15 -- A 28-year-old man has surrendered at Welcome Police Station after allegedly strangling his 23-year-old wife to death, police said.

The accused, identified as Deepak (28), son of Dinesh and a resident of Janta Mazdoor Colony in Welcome, approached the police station and confessed to the crime, informing officers that he had killed his wife.

Acting on the disclosure, a police team rushed to the couple's residence, where the woman was found lying unresponsive on the floor. She was taken to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause and timing of death, though initial findings suggest death by strangulation.

Police have registered an FIR under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to murder. The accused was taken into custody following his confession and is currently being interrogated.

A forensic team examined the scene and collected physical and circumstantial evidence. Officials said all relevant material has been preserved for further analysis. Preliminary inquiry suggests couple lived together in Welcome; motive unclear.

Police probe possible domestic dispute, record statements of neighbours and relatives; further investigation awaits post-mortem report.
