Kolkata, July 16 -- City police have launched a detailed investigation after a woman from South Kolkata lodged a complaint alleging that she was repeatedly raped and blackmailed over several years by a man she had met through a social media platform.
Based on the complaint lodged by the victim at Metiabruz Police Station, a Zero FIR was registered as the accused resides in the Bansdroni area, where a part of the alleged offence was committed.
According to sources, the victim and the accused first came into contact through a social media platform around seven years ago. Their interaction reportedly became more frequent during the Covid-19 pandemic, eventually leading them to undertake several trips together beginning in 2021.
The victim alleged in her complaint that during one of those trips, the accused sexually assaulted her in a hotel room and secretly recorded intimate photographs and videos without her knowledge. She further alleged that the accused later used those photographs and videos to blackmail, threaten and repeatedly rape her over the following years.
Following the registration of the Zero FIR, the case was transferred to Bansdroni Police Station for further legal action. Subsequently, Bansdroni Police registered a regular FIR and initiated an investigation into the allegations. The accused has not been arrested so far, and further investigation into the case is underway.
