Kolkata, Sept. 27 -- A youth was arrested by the cops of Pragati Maidan police station for allegedly molesting and physically assaulting a woman at a discotheque located inside the JW Marriott Hotel on Eastern Metropolitan (EM) Bypass.
The accused, identified as Mohammed Rafey Azim was apprehended after the victim lodged a formal complaint detailing the harrowing experience.
According to sources, the victim, a young resident of the New Alipore area, was visiting the prominent luxury hotel's nightclub late on Saturday night when the incident occurred. In her complaint, the woman alleged that the accused approached her, subjected her to physical harassment, and molested her on the premises. When she attempted to protest, the accused reportedly assaulted her before security personnel intervened. Immediately after the incident the accused fled.
The woman dialled the emergency helpline on 100 following which police arrived at the spot. After the woman lodged a complaint, a case was registered on charges of wrongful restraint, voluntarily causing hurt, word, gesture or act intended to insult modesty of a woman, Assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty and a few other allegations.
After reviewing CCTV footage from the venue and questioning hotel staff the accused was identified and traced. Later, on Sunday morning he was arrested.
