India, June 30 -- Delhi District Courts, in coordination with Delhi Traffic Police, will launch special Weekend Traffic Courts (WTCs) across the city from July 5 to help citizens dispose of pending compoundable traffic challans and improve public convenience. A total of 22 traffic court benches will function across 11 district court complexes, with each bench handling up to 700 compoundable notices or challans per sitting. The courts will operate on the second Saturday and all Sundays of every month. The initiative aims to speed up disposal of cases pending before the virtual court, reduce inconvenience to vehicle owners and encourage voluntary compliance with traffic rules. Citizens can generate up to 20 eligible notices or challans linked to a single vehicle for settlement. Eligible challans have been available for download on the Delhi Traffic Police portal since June 25 and can be presented before the respective Weekend Traffic Court. The courts will function from 10 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 4 pm. Officials said the move is part of broader citizen-centric reforms to improve service delivery and reduce pendency.
