New Delhi, Aug. 27 -- Union Women and Child Development Minister Annpurna Devi on Thursday welcomed the commencement of the first-ever Mahila Commando Conversion Course (MCCC) at the National Security Guard (NSG) Training Academy in Manesar, describing it as a significant step towards strengthening women's role in the country's security apparatus.
The maiden course will provide specialised training to women personnel from state police forces and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), equipping them for counter-terrorism and other specialised operations.
The training will cover weapons handling, tactical interventions, hostage rescue and anti-terrorism operations, officials said.
The programme aims to enhance the operational capabilities of women personnel and create a larger pool of trained women commandos for deployment in specialised security roles.
Sharing her views on X, Annpurna Devi said, "Women are being empowered in capacity, capability, numbers and opportunities under the visionary leadership of @narendramodi."
Hailing the initiative, the minister said "Nari Shakti" was increasingly entering roles that had traditionally been dominated by men.
The MCCC is expected to expand opportunities for women personnel in specialised operations while providing them with advanced counter-terrorism skills through training at the NSG academy.
Officials said the initiative would help state police forces and CAPFs meet complex and evolving security challenges by increasing the availability of trained women personnel for specialised assignments.
The NSG Training Academy at Manesar is among the country's premier centres for developing capabilities in specialised counter-terrorism operations.
The launch of the MCCC comes amid efforts by the security establishment to provide women personnel greater opportunities in operational roles and enhance their participation in specialised missions.
