Kolkata, July 6 -- The West Bengal Transport Corporation (WBTC) has introduced six new bus routes across Kolkata and parts of Howrah, Nadia, North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas since the change in government, following proposals from legislators, initiatives of the transport department and commuter petitions.
The services, launched between June 4 and July 3, are Jhikira-Howrah (E-31/1), Kulia-Howrah (E-28A), Howrah-Amta (E-6A), Boro Jaguli-Karunamoyee (AC-57), Kanchrapara-Barrackpore (S-70) and Sonarpur-Ecospace (S-71).
Three of the routes were introduced in the Howrah region following proposals from local legislators. Amta MLA Amit Samanta proposed the Jhikira-Howrah and Kulia-Howrah services, while Uluberia Uttar MLA Chiram Bera proposed the Howrah-Amta route.
Two other routes were introduced on the initiative of Transport Minister Arjun Singh. The AC-57 service connects Boro Jaguli in Nadia district with Karunamoyee in Salt Lake via Kalyani AIIMS, Muragacha, the Kalyani Expressway and Chinar Park. The S-70 route links Kanchrapara and Barrackpore through Naihati, Ghoshpara and Barrackpore station.
The sixth route, AC-58 between Sonarpur and Ecospace in New Town, was introduced following a mass petition from commuters. The service runs through Kamalgazi, the EM Bypass, College More and Tata Medical Centre.
