New Delhi, Oct. 31 -- The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) is considering changes to Madhyamik answer script evaluation to speed up result declaration and improve accuracy.

Proposed measures include assigning more scripts to younger teachers while relieving senior teachers nearing retirement of evaluation duties.

Examiners may also receive additional scripts after undergoing necessary training. The board is considering an accountability mechanism under which examiners and chief examiners would be asked to explain cases where students gain 10 or more marks after post-result reviews.

Around 40,000 to 45,000 teachers are currently engaged in the evaluation process, with each generally handling two packets of around 70 scripts. No final decision has been taken on the proposals.

The board aims to shorten the gap between examinations and results, which took around 90 days in 2026, to ensure Class XI admissions are completed in time for classes to begin in May.
