Chandigarh, May 12 -- Former Haryana Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda has urged immediate intervention by the Union Sports minister in the matter concerning Olympian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, calling the allegations raised by her "extremely serious".
Hooda said Phogat has brought glory to the country on several occasions and deserves respect and equal opportunity. He alleged that despite her merit, she was neither allowed to participate in a competition in Gonda nor permitted to use the training hall. Questioning the functioning of the Wrestling Federation of India, he said the Sports minister should personally take cognisance of the matter to ensure no athlete is denied rightful entitlements.
