New Delhi, July 5 -- A 22-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping a 17-year-old girl from northeast Delhi's Gokulpuri area, with police safely rescuing the minor during the investigation.
The accused, identified as Karan (22), a resident of Uttam Nagar, was arrested following a complaint lodged at Gokulpuri Police Station by the girl's mother. According to police, the woman reported on June 23 that her daughter had been missing since June 20 despite repeated efforts by the family to trace her. Suspecting that she had been abducted, she sought police intervention.
An FIR was registered under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and a police team launched an investigation using technical surveillance, electronic evidence and local intelligence to trace the girl.
Acting on technical inputs, the team located the victim and arrested the accused. The minor was rescued safely during the operation.
During interrogation, Karan allegedly confessed to his involvement in the offence. Police also recovered the mobile phone allegedly used in the crime from his possession.
Following the recovery of the victim and the recording of her statement, investigators invoked additional charges under Sections 64(1) and 87 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Police said the accused has no previous criminal record and further investigation is under way.
