Lucknow, Aug. 31 -- Legislators across party lines in Uttar Pradesh have demanded that the Vidhayak Nidhi be kept outside the 18 per cent GST ambit, arguing that the tax cuts into funds meant for constituency development.
During the recent Monsoon Session, BJP MLC Devendra Pratap Singh sought a unanimous resolution on the issue. BJP MLA Manish Asija said that of the Rs 5 crore allocated annually to each MLA, nearly Rs 90 lakh goes towards GST. SP MLA Kamal Akhtar suggested either increasing the fund to Rs 6 crore or quoting the allocation after GST deduction.
Though GST Council has rejected a proposal for exemption, an 11-member committee headed by Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana is examining changes to the fund's
