Noida, Sept. 11 -- The Noida Authority has stepped up inspections of old and structurally unsafe houses in villages under its jurisdiction, with officials now preparing to move beyond issuing notices and ensure that residents vacate buildings considered dangerous.
The move follows the recent building accident in Delhi and is aimed at preventing similar incidents in densely populated areas of Noida. Officials have been asked to identify buildings that pose a safety risk and initiate action against them.
According to officials, the Authority has divided its jurisdiction into 10 work circles covering 81 villages. The circle-level teams have been directed to conduct inspections and identify houses and other
structures that have deteriorated over time.
Surveys are currently being carried out in several densely populated villages, including Sadarpur, Nithari, Mamura, Salarpur and Bhangel. In Mamura alone, notices have so far been pasted on nine buildings. Residents are still
occupying these structures and have been asked to vacate them.
The notices give occupants around one to two weeks to leave the premises. They also caution residents and property owners that they would be responsible for any incident if they continue to occupy a building declared unsafe by the Authority.
ACEO Vandana Tripathi said the buildings found to be dangerous would be vacated as part of the enforcement process. Copies of the notices are also being sent to the local police so that assistance can be sought if residents refuse to leave voluntarily.
The Authority has dealt with the issue of unsafe buildings in the past as well. A survey conducted before 2019 had identified around 1,757 structures as unsafe, following which notices were issued to their owners. However, officials said effective follow-up action could not be carried out in several cases. This time, the Authority intends to ensure that buildings posing an immediate threat are cleared rather than limiting the exercise to paperwork.
The inspection is not restricted to villages. The Authority has already issued notices to 128 EWS flats in Sector 31
over their dilapidated condition. Further inspections are underway in Nithari and other areas.
