Kolkata, May 17 -- Two notorious criminals were arrested by Kolkata Police in separate operations conducted in Tangra and Bansdroni on Saturday night.

According to sources, officers of Tangra Police Station received specific information that a notorious criminal, identified as Md. Sabir alias Lalbabu of 7D-G.J. Khan Road in Tiljala, had been spotted in the area. Acting on the tip-off, a police team was immediately dispatched to apprehend him.

The cops tracked Sabir's location, surrounded him and arrested him before he could react. During the search, police allegedly recovered an improvised firearm along with six rounds of ammunition from his possession.

Sources said Sabir was wanted in six criminal cases registered across five police stations apart from Tangra police station.

In another incident on the same night, officers of Bansdroni police station arrested a youth identified as Satyabrata Basu Roy. During the operation, police seized two improvised country-made semi-automatic firearms along with four live cartridges from his possession.

Following the arrest, a case was registered against him at Bansdroni Police Station and further investigation into the matter is underway.
