Raiganj, May 11 -- Passengers travelling between Radhikapur and Siliguri are likely to face considerable inconvenience as railway authorities have temporarily suspended several trains on the route on May 16 and 17, reportedly for development work related to the

signalling system.

According to railway sources, both Up and Down 75705 and 75706 Radhikapur-Siliguri Intercity Express trains, along with 75708 Siliguri-Radhikapur DMU Passenger, will remain cancelled on May 16. In addition, 75707 Radhikapur-Siliguri DMU Passenger will remain suspended on May 17.

The sudden disruption is expected to affect hundreds of daily passengers, including traders, office-goers and patients travelling to Siliguri from Raiganj, Kaliyaganj and Radhikapur. Many commuters depend heavily on these trains as there is no other direct rail connectivity from the region to Siliguri.

Atanu Bandhu Lahiri, General Secretary of Raiganj Merchants' Association, expressed concern over the suspension. He said: "Numerous businessmen and patients regularly travel on these trains and would suffer due to the temporary cancellation."

Raju Kumar, Superintendent of Raiganj Railway Station, said: "The railway authorities had already issued prior notification regarding the suspension". He added that the temporary disruption was necessary for technical development work on the signalling system and normal services would resume thereafter
