India, Aug. 10 -- A Cessna C172 training aircraft operated by DGCA-approved Flying Training Organisation Academy of Carver Aviation suffered a runway excursion at Baramati Airfield in Maharashtra on Sunday. No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident. The incident involving aircraft VT-SEX occurred around 12:25 pm while the aircraft was being used for Circuit and Landing Emergencies (CL Emergencies) training. The aircraft was flown by Flight Instructor Captain Chirag Shashikant Doifode, with trainee Abhijeet Jundre on board. According to initial reports, the aircraft taxied out at 12:09 pm (0639 UTC) for the training exercise. Also Read - Arunachal CM calls upon universities in NE to become 'problem solving institutions' During the session, the aircraft was instructed to enter the runway through Link Bravo and align at the threshold of Runway 29 for a rejected take-off exercise. It was subsequently instructed to line up at the threshold of Runway 11 for another rejected take-off exercise. While carrying out the manoeuvre, the aircraft reportedly veered off the runway after it could not stop within the paved portion. It went beyond the extended paved surface past the threshold of Runway 29 and came to a stop on the right side. The safety of both the instructor and trainee was confirmed, and there were no casualties. The aircraft has prima facie suffered damage to its propeller, engine cowling and nose landing gear. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is expected to assess the extent of the damage as part of its preliminary examination. The DGCA's Air Safety team is also travelling to the site to conduct a preliminary inquiry into the incident. The investigation is expected to examine the training procedure, aircraft performance, runway condition and other relevant factors to determine the cause of the runway excursion.
