
Kolkata, May 13 -- Kolkata Police issued a traffic diversion notice on Wednesday in connection with construction work on the Orange Line (Airport-Garia) Metro project at the Chigrihata crossing.
According to the police, the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) will carry out construction work on the Orange Line Metro project at the Chingrihata crossing, for which a 60-hour traffic block was required twice.
Last month, in a meeting between the stakeholders, including the Kolkata Police and RVNL, tentative dates were discussed.
On Wednesday, police informed that in the first phase, a 60-hour traffic block will be taken for the construction work in Chingrihata crossing between 8 pm on May 15 (Friday) and 8 am on May 18 (Monday) for Segment launching work between Pier No 317 and 318. In the second phase, traffic block will be active between 8 pm on May 22 (Friday) and 8 am on May 25 (Monday) for segment launching work between P-318 and P-319.
During the North-bound movement closure, the Western flank of EM. Bypass will be closed near Chingrighata underneath Chingrighata Flyover, and during the second phase, for South-bound closure, the Eastern flank of EM Bypass near Chingrighata crossing will be closed.
When the Western flank will be closed for vehicular movement, All types of North-bound vehicles, for Salt Lake and Airport, will be diverted from EM Bypass, in front of NX Hotel, to avail the newly constructed North-bound diversion road underneath Metro Viaduct towards Chingrighata.
The vehicles availing the Chingrighata Flyover for Salt Lake will avail the newly constructed North-bound diversion road for their journey towards Chingrighata Crossing-EM Bypass and take the right turn from Beliaghata Building More to Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate Area. However, the South-bound vehicles of EM Bypass will avail their normal route. When the Eastern flank of the EM Bypass will be closed for vehicular movement near Chingrighata crossing, all types of North-bound vehicles, for Salt Lake, Ultadanga and Airport, will be diverted from EM Bypass, in front of the NX hotel, to avail the newly constructed North-bound Diversion Road towards Chingrighata.
The vehicles, availing the Chingrighata Flyover for Salt Lake, will avail the newly constructed North bound diversion Road and follow the route of the first phase closure to enter the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate area.
All types of South-bound vehicles will be diverted from Chingrighata Crossing to avail the Western flank of EM Bypass towards the newly constructed median cut-out for cross to the Eastern flank for further movement towards Science City. Vehicles coming from Salt Lake and New Town, intended to avail the Western flank for the northbound journey, will have to take a U-turn from the Metropolitan crossing.
