Malda, Sept. 17 -- Former English Bazar Municipality chairman and Trinamool Congress leader Krishnendu Narayan Choudhury's saffron-themed celebration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 77th birthday on Thursday has revived speculation about his possible shift to the BJP.

Choudhury, who resigned as municipal chairman about a week ago, organised the celebration at the municipality boardroom in the afternoon in the presence of councillors and employees. He cut a saffron-coloured cake and celebrated with saffron-coloured soft drinks before Modi's photograph. He also wished the Prime Minister good health and a long life.

Despite speculations, English Bazar BJP MLA and party chief whip Amlan Bhaduri had earlier categorically stated that the BJP's doors were closed for Choudhury.
