In Alipurduar, police arrested Sanjay Rabha, Pradhan of Shalkumar Gram Panchayat-II, and former TMC youth president Dipak Majhi in connection with the alleged attack on a BJP protest rally over the 2024 RG Kar incident. Police said the two are also accused in a separate case involving alleged extortion of Rs.50,000 at gunpoint and issuing death threats during the recently concluded Assembly elections. They were produced before the Alipurduar District Court, where police sought seven days' custody.
In another case, Samuktala Road Outpost police arrested SHG president Rina Das Debnath and vice-president Seema Sarkar from Kokrajhar, Assam, over the alleged embezzlement of nearly Rs.1 crore.
