Kolkata, April 15 -- Nirmal Dutta, husband of TMC councillor Alo Dutta of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation's Ward 38, has been arrested by Bidhannagar South police for allegedly threatening voters in support of TMC candidate Sujit Bose.

A former councillor, Nirmal was produced before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate's court in Bidhannagar on Wednesday and remanded to judicial custody till April 24.

According to sources, BJP candidate from the Bidhannagar Assembly constituency, Sharadwat Mukherjee, had lodged a complaint with the Bidhannagar Commissioner of Police, alleging that in a video Nirmal was heard saying voters must support his party and that voting could be tracked through a mobile app, warning of consequences otherwise. Millennium Post, however, could not verify the authenticity of the video.

Following the complaint, a case was registered at Bidhannagar South police station, and Nirmal was arrested on Tuesday.
